Nothing can be achieved with optimum results and productivity cannot be yielded if students are inadequately nourished. Madrasah Urwah has undertaken to see to the nutritional needs of students in various fields and communities by providing wholesome meals for them.

Focus

Madrasah Urwah aims to provide meals to all students to ensure their well-being is catered for on their journey in attaining knowledge.

Effort

Breakfasts and Lunches are catered for students at their respective premises, as well as other meals for boarding students. Feeding programmes are facilitated for students in other regions.

Inspiration

Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah Raḍiyallāhu Anhu hailed from a progeny embedded with generosity. During his lifetime, his practice was that one year he would go out in the Path of Allāh and the following year his son, Qays Raḍiyallāhu Anhu would go out in the Path of Allāh. It was once while Saʿd Raḍiyallāhu Anhu was out in the Path of Allāh that Rasūlullāh Ṣallallāhu ʿAlayhi wa Sallam received many guests. This information reached Saʿd Raḍiyallāhu Anhu while out in the Path of Allāh. Saʿd Raḍiyallāhu Anhu said,”If Qays is truly my son, then he will tell Nisṭās (our treasurer),”Give me the key’s to my father’s treasure so that I may take for Rasūlullāh Ṣallallāhu ʿAlayhi wa Sallam what is needed (for the guests).” Nisṭās will then say,”Bring a letter from your father that would authorise handing of the key to you.” Qays will strike Nisṭās, taking the key to my treasure and then give generously to feed the guests of Rasūlullāh Ṣallallāhu ʿAlayhi wa Sallam.”

Matters transpired exactly as Saʿd Raḍiyallāhu Anhu had mentioned and Qais Raḍiyallāhu Anhu took for Rasūlullāh Ṣallallāhu ʿAlayhi wa Sallam 100 Wasaq of provisions.

(1 Wasaq is equivalent to 60 Ṣāʿ. 1 Ṣāʿ at a minimum is 2 kilograms. 60 Ṣāʿ multiplied by 2 kilograms is equal to 120 kilograms. 120 kilograms multiplied by the 100 Wasaq is equal to 12 000 kilograms of provisions!)

This was the passion of Saʿd Raḍiyallāhu Anhu to feed others.

Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn Raḥmatullāhi ʿAlayhi has mentioned that the People of Ṣuffah would be close by to Rasūlullāh Ṣallallāhu ʿAlayhi wa Sallam. Some would take one guest home. Others would take two, some three and some would take ten home. Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah Raḍiyallāhu Anhu would take eighty people home and feed them.

In honour of this Ṣaḥābī Raḍiyallāhu Anhu it was decided that this project be named after him Raḍiyallāhu Anhu.
