Ijra’āt Salmā رضي الله عنها

عن عبدِ اللهِ بنِ جَعفرٍ، قال: لَمَّا جاء نَعْيُ جعفرٍ قال رسولُ الله صلَّى الله عليه وسلَّم: (اصنعُوا لآلِ جَعفَرٍ طعامًا؛ فقد أتاهم ما يَشْغَلُهم، أو أمْرٌ يَشْغَلُهم)

Abdullāh Bin Ja’far narrates that when the news of the passing on of Ja’far reached, Rasūlullāh said to his family, ” Prepare food for Ja’far’s family for they will be occuppied (with other aspects pertaining to his funeral).”

Effort

The news of the passing on of a family members floods a person with mixed emotions. Alongside the emotional and physical grieving that is experienced in the first hours, the family undergo the stress of ensuring arrangements are made for relatives and outsiders attending the funeral.

During these crucial hours we try and lend a hand by preparing and delivering one of the first meals at the funeral home for the bereaved family.

Inspiration

Who was Salmā رضي الله عنها ?

Salmā was the freed slave of Rasūlullāh . Her husband Abū Rāfi’ was the freed slave of Rasūlullāh . She assisted with the pre-delivery preparations and she assisted Khadījah during delivery of Rasūlullāh children. She was also involved in the delivery of Ibrāhīm the son of Rasūlullāh from Māriyah . Abū Rāfi’ would bring the news of the birth of the child to Rasūlullāh.
