Ijraʾāt ‘Uṯhmān bin ʿAffān Raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu

Madrasah Urwah Bin Az Zubayr has embarked on a project to facilitate and oversee the digging of boreholes and wells in and around South Africa and neighboring countries.

Focus

Having access to clean drinking water is a basic human right. We hope to fulfill this responsibility of ours by providing water to those in need.

Effort

Madrasah Urwah Bin Az Zubayr facilitates and oversees borehole projects and waterwells throughout the country.

These projects include drilling of the borehole, installation of pipework, electrical work and erecting a tank, and placing donor plaques at relevant sites.

These projects are well received by the communities and are used by students, and community members.

These projects assist in reducing the monthly costs of running community centres, and institutes of learning.

This is an on-going initiative, the Madrasah aims to provide relief wherever the need arises and donors are welcome to contribute towards this Ijra’āt.

Inspiration

When Nabī Ṣallallāhu ʾAlayhi Wa Sallam came to Madīnah, he found that there was very little fresh water available and that the only source of fresh water was the well of Rūmah. A man from the Banū Ghifār owned this well and would charge for water from it by the bucketful.

Nabī Ṣallallāhu ʾAlayhi Wa Sallam asked his Companions Raḍiyallāhu ʿanhum, “Who will buy Bi’r Rūmah and share it with the Muslims in return for reward in Paradise?”

When ‘Uthmān Raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu heard of this, he came forward and bought the well for a handsome amount of money and donated it in the path of Allāh. In honour of this Ṣaḥābī Raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu it was decided that this project be named after him (Raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu).
